Museums Reinventing the Narrative
Monday 12 May | London Transport Museum | Covent Garden
Keynote: Sam Mullins - Director, London Transport Museum
This exciting new one day conference examines how museums can redefine and re-energise their mission, collection and visitor appeal by repositioning and reinventing their narrative.
Brought to you by the team that recently delivered the exceptional £22 million London Transport Museum, this conference is a must for anyone who wants to discover how this well know museum in central London reviewed its purpose, developed a new interpretive approach, restructured its organisation and delivered an innovative new museum.
This is what Sam Mullins, the Museum's director, has to say: "We've redefined what the narrative history museum can be through telling the big story and then illustrating that with the small personal stories that relate to people's own experience. I don't think anyone has done this; the new museum is a unique proposition".
The London Transport Museum has been long-listed for the 2008 Art Fund Prize for Museums & Galleries. Take this opportunity to explore the museum and talk to the project team.

Experience the Transformed New Museum in Covent Garden
London Transport Museum has reopened after a two year, £22 million redesign project. New galleries tell the story of the development of London, its transport systems and the people who travelled and worked on them over the last 200 years. The Museum also looks at future transport developments and how transport has shaped five other world cities - Delhi, New York, Paris, Shanghai and Tokyo. Stunning new galleries feature original artworks and advertising posters, and explore the extraordinary design heritage of London's transport system.
Q&A and Audience Involvement
There will be the ample opportunity to question each of the contributors and audience involvement and participation is welcomed. The conference also provides the perfect opportunity to network and discuss ideas with speakers and fellow delegates throughout the day while enjoying the first-class lunch and refreshments at London Transport Museum.
